Nurses in horror as teenagers rip barbed wire from their legs in graphic scenes from A&E After Dark premiere

A NURSE is left horrified after a teenager tore barbed wire from his legs during tonight’s A&E After Dark.
In the first episode of the new series, which opens the door to the night shift of experienced A&E workers at Royal Hull Hospital, 18-year-old Ryan explains to Junior Sister Alex that his injury happened while he was entangled his feet in some barbed wire. .
He said: “We provide caravans and caravans that got caught in the fence, and the barbed wire came off and got caught in the back of my leg.
“I freaked out a bit and thought the best thing to do was pull it out.”
Speaking to the camera, Sister Alex said: “It’s not every night that we come across someone walking in with a wound like that in his leg and I don’t know how he pulled the barbed wire out himself.”
Due to the barbed wire wound, Ryan was taken for an X-ray to make sure there was no metal left in the wound and that it could be safely sutured.
Later in the episode Junior Doctor Chinedu is seen examining Ryan and marveling at how calm he is considering the extent of his injuries.
“I am always amazed at how people react differently to pain,” he said.
“I have seen people who are in pain and scream in pain because of a small cut on their arm, and then people with much more serious injuries are unfazed…
“With a deep open wound in my leg, I’d be quite surprised if you didn’t scream in pain, I would!”
A&E After Dark airs at 9pm tonight on Channel 5.
