Octavia Spencer says her Walk of Fame star is ‘not a lone achievement’
Octavia Spencer says her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is “not a solitary achievement”.
The US actress said it took her “a minute to absorb the depth of this moment” as she thanked “my family, my tribe, my village” at the ceremony in Los Angeles on Thursday. Five.
Spencer is known for her roles in films including Hidden Figures, Ma and The Help, the latter of which won her an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2012.

Her performance as Minny in the feature film DreamWorks also earned her a Bafta Award, a Golden Globe Award, a SAG Award and a Drama Critics’ Choice Award.
Since then, she has received two more Academy Award nominations for best supporting actress, for Hidden Figures in 2017 and The Shape Of Water in 2018.
She was joined on the Walk of Fame by actors Will Ferrell and Allison Janney, who spoke before the presentation, as well as other famous faces including Viola Davis.

Spencer said her success came “after a number of relative but healthy setbacks and rejections”.
“To be forever associated with the mythology of this city and the film industry is a great honor. It took me a minute to absorb the depth of this moment,” she said.
“The pinnacle of my dreams came true, hard work paid off after a fair but healthy number of failures and rejections.”

She went on to thank a long list of friends, family, colleagues, and other members of the entertainment industry, becoming emotional at times.
“If you happen to come across my star, while my name will be the only name you see, remember all the people I just named today, my village,” she said.
