Odyssey of the Aran Islands: a breathtaking shipwreck, super traditional music and the sound of Irish spoken

One of the more positive results of our Covid lockdowns has been that they have forced us to return to our own country. Back then, as I spread the map of Ireland out on the table, my wife and I realized just how much of the island we had actually never seen. We’ve been looking outward for so long – beyond Europe and beyond, or across the Atlantic to America – to see where we really want to go.

In the summer of 2020, traveling abroad suddenly became an impossible fantasy. And since then, the Aran Islands have become a place we always dreamed of visiting. We kept coming back to the map, trying to imagine how they would look and feel when we actually got there – those unique parts of Ireland that look like they were scattered across the sea by a mythical giant.
