Ukrainian actress Oksana Shvets is presumed dead after a Russian missile hit a residential building in Kyiv, according to her troupe, Youth Theatre.
The press said the actress was 67 years old when she died.
Expressing “inconsolable grief” over her death, her crew said in a statement: “During the rocket shelling of a residential building in Kyiv, a well-deserved artist was of Ukraine Oksana Shvets was killed.”
The translated post continued: “Brilliant memory for the talented actress! Unforgivable enemy has come to our land!”
Oksana is a veteran actor on stage and screen for decades in Ukraine and has won several top awards in the country.
Among them is the grand prize which roughly translates as Honored Artist of Ukraine.
She has been with the troupe Young since 1980.
She is said to have graduated from the acting studio at the Ivan Franko Theater and the Kyiv State Academy of Dramatic Arts.
According to Deadline, the actress has performed at the Ternopil Theater of Music and Drama and the Kyiv Theater of satire, as well as her work at the Youth Theatre.
She was one of several high-ranking figures who died during the invasion of Russia. Also losing their lives in the atrocities included several athletes defending against attackers and journalists covering the war.
Another actor, Pasha Lee, is believed to have passed away earlier this month.
The invasion of Ukraine, ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, has drawn widespread condemnation globally, with increasingly severe economic sanctions being imposed on Russia.
Celebrities and members of the public from around the globe have come together to try to raise much-needed funds to help Ukrainian refugees.
Among them are Ukrainian-born actress Mila Kunis and her husband, Hollywood star Ashton Kutcher.
On Thursday, the pair revealed that they’ve hit their $30 million fundraising goal. The feat lasted just two weeks, with over 65,000 people donating to their GoFundMe page.
In a social media video, Ashton said: “While this is not a solution to the problem, our collective effort will provide a softer landing for so many people as they walk in. Their uncertain future Our work not done is why we are raising our target to $40 million.
“We will do all we can to ensure that the outpouring of love that comes as part of this campaign finds maximum impact on those in need.”
