An unopened original iPhone has fetched £30,000 at auction 15 years after it was first released.
The first generation device sold for $35,414, complete with box and factory sealed.
It’s not uncommon for old iPhones to turn up, but it’s rare to find them in such good condition in their original packaging.
The smartphone only has 8GB of storage – tiny compared to the 128GB minimum available today iPhone 13.
On the box is a life-size image of the iconic smartphone that changed Apple forever.
12 basic apps are displayed on the tiny 3.5 inch screen.
Experts say this particular model is likely to be from the earliest production as the iTunes app is yet to be revealed.
It soon followed and was eventually added to the packaging.
“The iPhone is a revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone,” said late Apple CEO Steve Jobs when he announced the device in January 2007.
The very first iPhone was just £269 back then.

It was auctioned off as part of a special ‘Apple, Jobs and Computer Hardware’ curation put together by specialist RR Auction.
They also sold an unopened original first generation Apple iPod (5GB) which sold for £21,000.
Although you probably don’t have an original iPhone lying around unboxed, you can still make a tidy sum for other retro Apple products.
Some aging iPhones, iPods, and Macs that were premium a few years ago could be worth thousands today.
