Olly Murs returns to the top of the charts with album Marry Me

Olly Murs said it was “not ingrained” after winning her fifth UK number-one album with Marry Me.
He is the singer-songwriter, 38, who has shot straight to the top in six years, although this week was heavily criticized on social media for the lyrics of one of his songs. It was labeled “controlled”.
Murs said: “Wow, it’s been six years since I hit number one, so thank you so much to all the fans, you guys are really amazing!

“Thanks to my amazing team, Official Charts Company, I’m so excited to have a top album. Mary Me is number one this week!
“It’s amazing, I don’t think it really sinks in. That’s a lot of hard work that went into this, thank you very much!
The album’s success followed criticism of his song I Hate You When You’re Drunk, with online users linking to his fiance Amelia Tank.
Speaking of the condemnation on BBC Breakfast this week, he said: “It’s obviously very upsetting to think that people have done it that way because that’s not the intention.
“When you listen to the song and you understand what kind of artist I am, it’s just a bit more daring fun.”
Murs, runner-up on 2009’s X Factor, weathered stiff competition for the top spot from pop superstar Taylor Swift with her Midnights album.
Meanwhile on the singles chart, Mariah Carey made a spectacular comeback at number one with All I Want For Christmas Is You, ending Swift’s six-week dominance at the top with Anti-Hero .
Carey’s song has previously topped the UK charts only once, reaching number one in 2020 – 26 years after its release.
Sir Elton John and Ed Sheeran’s Merry Christmas also featured in the top 10, along with It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas and Michael Buble’s Wham’s Last Christmas.
