Olympic gold medalist Kellie Harrington, 32, said her wedding to new wife Mandy Loughlin was “absolutely amazing”.
The couple, who have been together for over 10 years, were married at an intimate ceremony in Dublin on Saturday and the sports star said it was a wonderful occasion.
“It was a fantastic day. And you know Irish weather – we have the four seasons in one day but we have a bit of sunshine throughout the day which has been absolutely amazing,” she said.
The newlyweds decided against honeymoon this week, as Harrington told ‘Dermot & Dave’ on Today FM how she’s been busy preparing for the Women’s World Championships in Istanbul in May.
“I’m preparing for the World Cup, so no rest for the bad guys. After the weekend, I’m going back to the track this week. But you have to control what you eat, but you also don’t limit yourself too much to the candy bars and things like that,” she says.
The Dublin superstar said winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics last August was “so special” for her and those around her.
“It was really amazing and I think only when I retire will I realize what I’ve done because as soon as I came back from the Olympics it was like, ‘What next?’

“It’s not because I’m hungry for success or anything, it’s because I’m hungry for meaning and structure in my life,” she said.
She said her athletic success hadn’t changed her at all, but that a lot more people would recognize her now, especially after her St. Patrick’s Day appearance on The Late Late Show.
“It hasn’t changed me, but it has changed the way people react around me. But I’m still me, but the people around me are definitely different, not my family or anything. They still treat me like me. But the people around you change and the way they behave towards you changes,” she said.
She also ruled out ever turning pro as “nothing on my mind.”
“I want to have a little bit of life, so I’ll retire at 34 and that will be done and dusted. I go to my club and still train. It’s not about leaving the sport, I will still train because I have to. I just think it’s great for your mental health. I’ll still tip over,” she said.
“Pro boxing is not for me. It’s a business and I want to settle down properly after Paris (Olympics) when I get there.”
