A manhunt is underway after one person was killed and another seriously injured at a high school graduation in Tennessee.
The attack happened at Middle Tennessee State University in Rutherford County, where Riverdale High School’s graduation ceremony was concluding around 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Murphy Center.
Sgt. Dan Goodwin, spokesman for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that two people were shot near tennis courts at the athletic facility.
He said one person was killed and the other was taken to hospital in critical condition.
“Tonight’s shooting at Middle Tennessee State University is a tragedy for our community. We mourn with the family who lost a loved one and injured victim,” Sgt Goodwin told reporters.
A manhunt is underway to find the shooter with criminal investigators from the Murfreesboro Police Department working with campus police, the sheriff’s office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The university posted on Facebook around 9:15 p.m. urging people to leave the Murphy Center immediately and find shelter.
