Five Irish restaurants on both sides of the border have been named ‘New Favorite Restaurants’ by inspectors in the prestigious Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland 2023.
The restaurants, two in the Republic and three in Northern Ireland, have been added to the online version of the Foodie Bible, updated monthly.
The digitally recognized restaurants are: Terre Restaurant at Castlemartyr Resort in Co Cork, The Bishop’s Buttery at Cashal Palace Hotel in Co Tipperary, Blank in Belfast, Fontana at Holywood, Co Down and Artis by Phelim O’Hagan in Derry.
However, whether they will receive the coveted Michelin Stars, Michelin Green Stars for sustainability or other special awards remains to be seen when the new guide’s restaurant selection is presented live in Northamptonshire, England on 27 March for the first time in two years.
“After two years of not being able to organize a physical event in the UK and Ireland, we are thrilled to come together again with a warm, exciting and friendly gathering,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of Michelin Guides.
“The Michelin Guide team is on site and busy organizing a celebration to fully reflect the talent, dedication and resilience of the British and Irish food scene – a celebration that is all the more welcome in the current difficult economic climate. “
The new listings announced today bring the number of Irish restaurants added to the digital guide to 12 since Michelin inspectors began their final round of inspections last March, following the release of the UK and Ireland 2022 guide last February.
