ONLY Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst has been forced to deny he has retired following the tragic death of his son.
A close friend claims the comedy legend, 60, took a step back in his acting career after his son Archie was killed by a brain hemorrhage at the age of 19 in 2020 – but his agent insists determined he is still receiving offers and will continue to work.
His son Archie suffered a brain hemorrhage at the age of 19 in 2020.
Longtime friend and writer Laurence Marks said the actor – who rose to fame as Rodney Trotter in Only Fools – inability to return to focus.
“Nicholas went through a tragedy,” he said.
“It must have broken his heart. It would have broken anyone’s heart.
“He has always kept to himself and now he will do it more than ever. Now that he has lost his son, it will never appear again.
“I doubt we’ll see him act again.”
He added Daily Star Sunday “I would say we will see him act again, but I don’t think we will.
“We will have to live in visual memories of him and we have a lot of them. We have to be grateful for that.”
However, a representative for Nicholas later denied the report, saying that “he continues to receive offers repeatedly.”
They added Metro: “Of course he and his wife are heartbroken over the sudden passing of their young son, but Mr. Lyndhurst will continue his career with whatever part and script appeals to him.”
Nicholas’ other notable role was as Gary Sparrow in Goodnight Sweetheart in the ’90s.
He also played Dan Griffin in the BBC TV series New Tricks and Adam Parkinson in the Carla Lane series Butterflies in the 70s and 80s.
Last year, his wife Lucy paid tribute to Archie on her first Mother’s Day following his untimely death.
She shared a collage of photos of her son as a boy.
Snapshots show him in a child growing up on the steps by the sink, Archie by the rainbow, as well as the boy posing with his mother.
The heartbroken mother wrote: “My dearest son. To get to this day without you was the hardest thing ever. I miss you every minute of every day. I will never stop. I love you, never.
“Thanks for making me a mummy. It was the best adventure I’ve ever had. You never stopped me from smiling.
“Thank you for all those beautiful happy times. I will forever be in your debt. You teach me every day to be a better person. Love you today, tomorrow and always. always. All my love is my devoted Mother. 💔🕊🤍💫🐻XxX”
Lucy revealed last January that Archie had passed away from leukemia/acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
It’s a rare condition that kills 800 people a year.
