Oowees vegan fast food is coming to Brighton

THE DIRTY BURGER restaurant concept was washed up dead. What was once a hidden gem in cities across Britain now seems corny.

But Brighton’s newest restaurant, Oowee, has taken the idea further and breathed new life into it – by making its entire menu fully vegan.

And if, like many people, you find vegan food “boring” or “boring,” then think again because when The Argus attended the fast food joint’s soft opening last night, both the food and the atmosphere is also untouchable.

The small restaurant on Market Street is bathed in orange and green and makes great use of limited space with a raised dining area and shared banquette seating.

There is also a great view of the kitchen. It’s always nice to see how your food is prepared. There is nothing to hide here.

The place was absolutely buzzing and the people on either side of me were in awe of how good their food was which only increased my anticipation.

Ordering at the bar is easy and the staff were very happy and friendly.

My food came promptly. I chose The Other Side Chick and Popcorn Chick’n – both use the brand’s Chick’n. This is absolutely amazing stuff, all homemade, and well worth making the trip.

Beautiful, sweet pickled onions with lots of garlic mayonnaise and just the right amount of lettuce on crispy, juicy chick’n. It was the best burger I have ever eaten, meat or otherwise.

And don’t forget the Popcorn Chick’n – a great little treat and perfect for a weekend snack while shopping in the city.

The music is also worth mentioning here.

Co-founder Charlie Watson used to host club nights in Bristol, where the brand started, and it’s evident in the playlist: garage, house and a nice mix of funky tunes thrown in as an encore. It works out.

The killer question: Would I go back?

Without a doubt. I’m already planning to go there with some friends tomorrow after the opening.

And do I think it has a long-term future in our city?

A fully vegan fast food joint in the heart of trendy Brighton, you say?

Couldn’t be more at home here and will certainly do well.
