Was this Tiger Woods’ last trip to St Andrews?
Follow all the action from Round 3 of The Open at St Andrews.
Cameron Smith took a two-shot lead after a spectacular round of 64 yesterday as the field took full advantage of the gentle conditions on the Old Course. The Aussie set a new low-goal record at half-time but he’s hardly out of sight with a number of high-profile names hot on his heels. First round leader Cameron Young is the next challenger but both Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland are three shots behind at -10. Dustin Johnson is one shot behind and is paired with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler this afternoon. Other notable names in contention include Tyrrell Hatton and Matt Fitzpatrick.
One man who will not be in action this weekend is Tiger Woods after the 46-year-old missed the cut in an emotional round yesterday after admitting he is unlikely to play another championship round at The Open. Phil Mickelson also missed the cut mark after a hot back-nine, but some of his fellow LIVs had plenty of success, with Johnson being propelled to the top of the leaderboard by Talor Gooch, while Sadom Kaewkanjana, Abraham Ancer and Lee Westwood were early in the game all in the top 20.

The Open 2022: DeChambeau birdies 18
And then he almost punches his approach! What a rollercoaster ending to DeChambeau’s loop. A four-putt double bogey, an up and down path at the road hole, and a carabiner to set up a tap-in birdie at the end.
It’s a round of 67 for the American and he’s in the clubhouse at -6.

The Open 2022: DeChambeau’s snap hook
DeChambeau just snagged his tee shot on the 18th and he’s running to the first tee all the way to the grandstand! It was also just an iron.

The Open 2022: DeChambeau on his way to the road hole
DeChambeau pulled his drive that far to the left at the road hole, but was able to get relief. It doesn’t help much though as he’ll be hitting his approach over the back of the green and it’s going to be a tricky up and down path from there.

The Open 2022: Spieth birdies the third
Spieth starts his third round with a birdie in the third. He is now at -5.
A few groups up, Zatoris is doing back-to-back birdies at 5 and 6 and is -6 for the tournament.

The Open 2022: DeChambeau unravels on June 16
DeChambeau spent some time on the putting green at the first tee after his round yesterday. On the 16th, however, that didn’t do him much good. A four putt double bogey stops his attack and he’s back at -5.

The Open 2022: Pieter’s five under 11
Thomas Pieters’ best result at an Open came back in 2018 with a tie for 28th place. After a brilliant start to his third lap, he is currently eighth. The Belgian is five under through 11 holes and now at -7 for the tournament.

The Open 2022: Poulter also at -5
Ian Poulter is ticking well with two birdies on his first six holes that put him at -5.
However, everything goes wrong for Justin Thomas. The American hat-tricked bogeys on the turn and is back at +1. That gloom doesn’t quite compare to Hideki Matsuyama’s, however. The former Masters champion is out for his round five after a double bogey at 14.

The Open 2022: Varner moves up to -5
Rahm misses the putt! That won’t do his temperament any favors. However, Varner doesn’t make the same mistake and a birdie puts the American at -5.
Russell Henley has moved up the rankings with an eagle in ninth place. He makes the turn in 31 and is now seven under for the tournament.

The Open 2022: Rahm almost holes at 1
I said Rahm needed a good round… well he almost holed off the fairway the first time! This should be an easy tap in for a birdie start.
DeChambeau nearly hit the green in two shots on the par-5 14, but a bad putt up the slope left him too far from the hole and he’s forced to settle for a par. He’s still six under for his round, but that’s a good shot away.

The Open 2022: Rahm gets going
Jon Rahm needs a special round today to force himself into the competition. The Spaniard, who plays alongside Harold Varner III, starts nine shots behind Smith’s lead.
