TIKTOK users struggle to get acquainted with viral video of mind-boggling mirror illusion.
People have realized that if you stand in front of a mirror and look down, you can still see your feet in the reflection even though the mirror doesn’t reach the floor.
TikTok star Kyliekathleen88 was inundated with confused comments after her daughter revealed the ruse.
One said she “found a flaw in the matrix”.
While another couldn’t believe it: “Why can you see something that is NOT in the mirror?”
A third stunned user admitted, “For some reason my brain just can’t take care of it, even though people have explained it.”
If you’ve just tried it yourself and are just as stumped, don’t worry, you won’t go crazy.
It turns out there’s a perfectly logical scientific explanation for this, based on the law of reflection.
“The law of reflection states that when a ray of light reflects off a surface, the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection,” it says physics lesson.
So basically it depends on the angle you are at and how the light from your feet reflects off the mirror.
“It’s like seeing a car in the right wing mirror while driving, even though it’s not directly in front of the mirror,” explained one commenter.
