Oscar 2023 host Jimmy Kimmel says Will Smith’s slap ‘must appear’ on show

Jimmy Kimmel says Will Smith’s now infamous Oscar slap “must come out in some way” at next year’s ceremony.
The US talk show host, who was recently announced as next year’s host, said he didn’t want to “light up” the case.
Smith stormed onto the stage during the 94th Academy Awards in March and attacked Chris Rock, after the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Speaking to US outlet Extra about his reception mission next year, Kimmel said: “It has to come out in some way.
“You know, I don’t necessarily want to unravel it, because it’s not (funny) for comedians.
“You know, comedians go crazy over that…it’s one of those things that to a bunch of people who find everything funny, it’s, not funny at all, you know?”
Kimmel has hosted the Oscars twice before, both in 2017 and 2018.

“But of course… when they misread the winner one year when I was hosting the Oscars, we had to mention that the next year,” Kimmel told Extra.
Kimmel will host the Oscars for the third time, with the 95th annual event scheduled for Sunday, March 12, 2023.
