Two people were killed and several “seriously injured”, including 10 others who were taken to hospital after shootings at an Oslo nightclub – what police called an “active” situation.

Emergency services rushed to the London pub on Rosenkrantz Road in the city center after receiving reports of gunfire around 1.15am.

Panic spread with up to “20 gunshots” fired from the nightclub in the street and people ran for shelter.

Police believe the shooting took place at three different locations and two firearms were found.

There are three active crime scenes and police say there may have been multiple attackers.

Police Chief Tore Barstad has confirmed that two people have died, while ten others have been hospitalized and three are in serious condition.

“Several shots were fired at a downtown nightclub. We will come back with more information. There are injuries,” tweeted the Norwegian police.

They then updated it to say two people had died.

“Two people have been confirmed dead in the shooting. There are several seriously injured,” it said.

“Police are defining the situation as a (ongoing) PLIVO incident.”

Norwegian police said a suspect was arrested near the scene of the crime.

The shooting is believed to have broken out around 1.15am local time, sparking panic at the nightclub as people fled the scene.

The club is popular with the gay community and this weekend Pride will be celebrated in Oslo.

A witness who was at the nightclub said he believed up to 20 shots were fired.

“I was just down the street when I heard 10, 15, maybe 20 gunshots. Then people started running,” the clubber told media outlet Dagbladet.

He said that many people were hiding in a smoking area next to the London pub and that a huge police presence was quickly on the scene.

“I’ve never seen so many blue lights in Oslo,” he added.
