Former Ireland international Robbie Keane has paid tribute to his “wonderful mother” Anne as he announced her death.
Obbie said she was “our rock” in a tribute to his late mother on social media.
Anne was predeceased by his father Robbie Snr who passed away in 2003 aged 50.
“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of my beloved mother Anne. My wonderful mother was our rock. She adored her children and grandchildren and was the most generous and selfless person I have ever met. She had an infectious sense of humor and always put smiles on our faces,” Robbie said on Instagram.
“You’ve always wondered where I get my resilience from, but after seeing your determination and your struggle despite everything that life has thrown at you, and especially in the last few weeks, I know it came from your mother , you were always so strong, a true warrior,” Keane said.
The former Liverpool and Spurs striker said: “Words cannot adequately express how lucky we were to have a mother like you”.
“Thank you for all the love, laughter and memories that I will forever cherish. It breaks my heart to say goodbye, but I know that Dad will be waiting for you with open arms and that you two will continue to guide us all from above. Rest in peace mom. I will always love and miss you,” Robbie said.
Dimitar Berbatov, Patrick Kluivert, Celtic FC and Ally McCoist were among the hundreds of well-wishers who offered their condolences to Robbie and his family online following the news of his mother’s death.
