New research from bright dates, the global leader in innovative public web data solutions, has highlighted the importance of data in virtual environments like the Metaverse. The survey conducted by a leading research firm Vanson Bournewhich generated insights from 400 IT and technology industry leaders in the US and UK, showed that more than half of respondents (54%) believe data will be critical to sustaining the metaverse.
To support their Metaverse strategy, more than three-quarters of IT, telecoms and technology executives (84%) plan to consider sourcing data intelligence solutions to be deployed in virtual worlds over the next two years. Such technologies are important for technology industry leaders and their companies as they measure the data emitted by AR and VR technologies and collect other publicly available data.
Since first being discussed in 2021, the Metaverse has been a hot topic and widely regarded as the next frontier in business and technology. While we’re still in the early days of these virtual spaces, many respondents expressed concerns about “compliance and standards” of data (47%) and “staff’s experience of time and space” (38%) within Metaverses. These concerns demonstrate the need for consistent Metaverse standards and practices and a code of conduct for collecting different types of data.
60% of all IT and technology leaders who plan to integrate business processes into the metaverse are concerned about “data” and “security”. The findings are the latest of many to suggest that while data is essential to the success of the metaverse, there are serious unresolved questions about how it will be collected and used.
“This is an evolving technology unknown to consumers and business leaders alike, which is why we’re thrilled to be leading the conversation about data usage in the Metaverse,” he said Or Lenchner, CEO of Bright Data. “We now know that organizations rely on public web data to support the most strategic decision-making. The Metaverse will add a new layer to this – millions of additional public data points will be revealed. Therefore, it is clear that data solutions will play a key role in connecting organizations with their customers or employees in the metaverse and help uncover hidden insights,” added Lenchner.
“However, I must warn and emphasize the need to collect data responsibly and intelligently in the Metaverse and to avoid damaging the entire data ecosystem at all costs. It’s an exciting frontier for everyone, especially those in the data space. But we must be willing to measure exactly how much and what types of data companies need to plan their future business direction,” concluded Lenchner.
