Overwatch 2 goes offline after another cyber attack

OVERWATCH 2 was briefly taken offline last night due to another cyber attack.

On October 5th, just one day after the official launch of Overwatch 2, the servers were briefly downed by a cyberattack known as the DDOS attack.

This is a type of attack where someone sets up multiple bots to continuously send data to the game’s server.

With so much data to process and limited processing power, the server will grind to a halt, preventing most players from connecting.

The first time this happened it was fixed fairly quickly but it didn’t prevent the issue and it has recurred.

Whether or not they are the same culprits as last time is unknown, but the servers were taken down last night for “emergency maintenance” following the second DDOS attack in less than a week.

It came at the worst possible time for the Overwatch 2 developers, who were in the process of fixing some major bugs when it happened.

Players logged in yesterday and found about a third of the list had been mysteriously banned.

This was because two characters, Bastion and Torbjorn, had been intentionally banned by the developers while fixing groundbreaking bugs that involved them.

Unfortunately, every method they used to lock down the characters was overzealous and locked down more than it should have been.

The DDOS attack is now over and the servers are up and running, but fans are wondering if this will happen again any time soon.

The developers are reluctant to divulge details as everything they reveal is a potential lead for attackers.

This incident is just the latest in a long line of problems for Overwatch 2, as the game’s launch was nothing short of a disaster.

SMS Protect has caused all sorts of controversy, the extremely long queues have been bugging players all week, and even those who get in can be kicked out for an achievement.

However, those who have been able to play the game for a really long time can say positive things about it.

If you haven’t dived in yet or are curious about Overwatch 2, it might be best to wait a little longer for all those launch week woes to wear off.
