OVERWATCH 2 was launched on Tuesday (October 4th), but the majority of players were unable to join any game.
This is due to a special type of cyber attack called a DDoS attack.
A DDoS attack is when someone sets up a bot or bots to continuously try to send data to the servers.
As the servers attempt to fend off the attack, it becomes more difficult for them to perform their usual functions, in this case running Overwatch 2.
As the servers are struggling, fewer Overwatch 2 games can run simultaneously, meaning fewer people can play the game.
This has resulted in players having to queue for hours to join a game.
As a free-to-play game, the servers for the original Overwatch have been shut down in anticipation of the launch of the sequel.
This has made the queue situation even worse for those hoping to try out the new game.
While queues have reached up to 10,000 players, that’s not the only issue players are having.
There are also many reports of skins and items not being carried over from the original game for players.
While others still report not being able to purchase items from the in-game shop.
A member of the Overwatch team, Aaron Keller, updated fans on the current situation.
He tweeted: “We are making steady progress on server issues and stability and are working our way through a second DDoS attack.
“We are all hands on deck and will continue to work throughout the night.
“Thank you for your patience – we will share more information as it becomes available.”
Despite developer Blizzard’s continued work on the issue, the servers appear to still be burdened by the attacks.
If you want to play Overwatch 2 without long waits, you might want to jump into the game a little later, when the situation is under control.
