Overwatch 2 PVP Beta Impressions: Is It A Little Late?

Overwatch 2 has been releasing its PvP closed beta for a while now, offering all invitees a chance to try the next big step for the colossal Activision Blizzard hero shooter. This beta is the first major opportunity to see the game and all of its changes, and marks an important moment for the sequel. After all, everyone knows that first impressions are hard to shatter.

Dorrani, our in-house Overwatch player and video maker, was one of the select few invited. Embedded above, he packed all his impressions into six minutes of Overwatch 2 beta footage. Be sure to get the perspective of a longtime fan of the series trying out the next big installment.

First things first, it’s hard to ignore that the game looks incredibly similar to the original Overwatch, with an almost identical cast of characters and maps. However, a closer look at the more intricate changes made to each character, as well as the graphical improvements, reveals where much of the work has gone.

In terms of major new tweaks, there’s the move from 6v6 to 5v5, which focuses team compositions and keeps fights frantic and fast-paced without changing the overall feel too much. There’s also a new hero in Sojourn, a fast DPS hero with railguns that adds some more offensive options without shaking up the meta too much.

Then there’s Push, a new game mode introduced in the PVP Beta where both teams escort a robot to portable walls that only they can move. The team that lets the robot move the furthest wins. It sure fits the Overwatch style, but lacks that exciting spark.

For Dorrani’s full impressions, you must watch his full impressions video embedded above! If you have done so, share your impressions with us below. Is it too similar to Overwatch 1? Or was that what you were hoping for?
