Overwatch 2: Sojourn gameplay, weapons and abilities revealed

Blizzard has shown gameplay and broken down the abilities of Overwatch 2’s new hero, Sojourn.

As revealed in a blog post on the Overwatch website, Sojourn’s arsenal is spearheaded by a massive railgun, making her an ideal mid-range character.

It fires fast projectiles that generate energy on hitting enemies, which is then used to power a much more powerful blast that acts as Sojourn’s secondary weapon. As a result, while the Railgun is a fairly basic weapon, it scales with the player’s skill as accuracy directly affects secondary damage.

“We wanted to create a mid-range hero that rewards accuracy, yet is fun for different skill and gameplay levels,” said Senior Hero Designer Josh Noh.

Another ability is Disruptor Shot, an AOE attack that ensnares enemies, eats their health and was developed alongside the secondary attack as it allows for an easier shot.

Sojourn is also highly mobile, thanks to a rocket-powered slide that can be broken off into a high jump for quick repositioning. “We wanted to add a vertical element to her loadout so she could quickly access high vantage points and solidify her role as a mobile damage hero,” Noh said.

Finally, her ultimate ability is Overclock, which automatically charges the railgun’s energy for a short time, allowing her shots to pierce multiple enemies if the player is accurate enough.

Noh said, “We wanted it to feel almost like the hitscan version of a Genji Dragon Blade. You only have a limited time to make a big play or you could miss all your shots.”

While those are all gameplay details from Sojourn, Blizzard also recently revealed her intertwined origin story for Soldier: 76. She’s the only new character confirmed for Overwatch 2 so far, but all 32 characters from the first game will appear in the sequel as well be playable.

Players with access to the first PC closed beta will be able to test it out on April 26, and while Blizzard hasn’t confirmed a release date for the game’s official launch, it has said that the PvP and PvE modes will appear separately.
