Overwatch 2 tier list: The best heroes to play with

WITH the launch of Overwatch 2 comes a long list of changes to each individual hero, as well as the overall meta of the game itself.

Teams are now five heroes instead of six, meaning you have one less tank in your party.

Heroes that deal damage have a huge advantage, as they temporarily gain more reload and movement speed after eliminating someone.

Tanks are fewer each game, meaning there’s less chance of grouping for shields and protection.

All of this leads to what some are predicting – teamfights will become less important and dueling/skirmishes will become more important.

Make sure you read this carefully – less important is not unimportant.

If you can't get into a match in Overwatch 2 - here's why

That being said, we’ve created a ranking of heroes that takes into account their ability to dueling, dismantling, or otherwise disrupting opponents.

Remember, none of us are professional players – metas are fluid and will change over time as players band together around strategies that work for them.

These are general tips to help you find a solid footing in Overwatch 2, but individual play will always rank above what any online leaderboard says.

Also, the new heroes aren’t on this list, so if you’re looking visit, Kiriko or squire queenyou’re out of luck

They won’t unlock for competitive play for a few weeks after release anyway, so don’t worry about them for now.

Still, Sojourn seems like a top pick based on the beta build we played.

With that in mind, let’s dive into ours Ranking for Overwatch 2.

S rank

  • Damage: Genji, Soldier: 76, Ashe
  • Tank: Zarya, Doomfist, D.Va
  • Support: Lucio, Ana, Baptiste

Genji and Soldier: 76 are not pipe dreams. Genji hasn’t changed at all and Soldier got some extremely minor nerfs, but both have taken great advantage of the new passive DPS.

As he is also relatively unchanged, but with the reduction in team size, Ashe is able to apply extreme pressure with BOB and Dynamite coverage.

Zarya has always been the best tank for duelists with her ability to absorb damage and turn it into bonus damage, giving Zarya’s mains peace of mind.

doom fist is also a good choice for Duelists as it’s a much more mobile and slightly less robust option, but its damage has decreased significantly since it no longer has an uppercut option.

D Va has a much stronger Defense Matrix ability and its damage output is about the same as well.

On the support side, this new duelist playstyle will reward those who are passive healers the most, and Lucio is the strongest passive healer in the game – but remember that all healers now gain passive healing.

ann still provides snapshot healing and long-range damage, but now that she has the passive healing buff, she doesn’t have to waste a grenade on heals on herself.

Baptiste hasn’t changed significantly since OW1, aside from an increase in his active healing ability, meaning the Immortality Field is still a fantastic tool.

A rank

  • Damage: Widowmaker, Sombra, Hanzo. bastion
  • Tank: Sigma, Orisa, Winston
  • Support: Brigitte, Zenyatta, Mercy

widowmaker is completely unchanged except for one thing – an improvement in health.

This means that if you’ve mained Widowmaker, you’ll still enjoy similar levels of achievement in Overwatch 2.

sombraThe biggest change from is her ability to hack while stealthed (albeit revealing your position), so we can expect some big plays from Sombra players in the future.

Hanzo took a hit from his Storm Arrow, but is otherwise virtually unchanged.

bastion is basically a whole new hero – her primary fire is reduced in rate of fire but increased in damage, her shapeshift is not permanent but movable.

Bastion’s Ultimate turns them into a Mortar, allowing them to land up to three Mortar Blasts very far away.

Sigma and Winston are practically unchanged, but Orisa got a complete kit redesign.

OrissaThe alternate fire of is now a javelin throw, and instead of a shield, Orisa gains a javelin spin that still absorbs damage but also deals damage to enemies.

Her new ultimate allows her to suck in enemies around her – the longer she holds it, the more damage it does.

Bridget and Zenyatta are practically unchanged, although Zenyatta gets a new kick that actually pushes enemies around!

Merciful is also mostly unchanged, although she messed up with her super jump once again.

Mercy’s passive healing buff is stronger than the other supports, so take that into account as well.

B Rank – Everyone else

  • Damage: Cassidy, Echo, Pharah, Mei, Reaper, Symmetra, Junkrat, Torbjorn
  • Tank: Wrecking Ball, Reinhardt, Roadhog
  • Support: moira

All of these heroes either received extremely minor changes or were nerfed in some way.

The biggest changes for these heroes include Cassidy‘s new grenade, which is no longer a flash bomb, but a seeking grenade.

Reinhardt now has an improved ability to direct his charge and gains a second Alternate Fire charge traffic rowdy has the ability to pause his ultimate while shooting.

I've been without money for weeks because my bank thought I was dead...I'm fuming

This is our ranking! Keep in mind that this is based on a beta build that we had access to, and future updates (and top player meta) will likely completely change this list in the future.

Good luck heroes.
