Owner whose dog attacked neighbor in horror moment had to tear teeth out of her head

A dog owner whose pooch tied up his 75-year-old neighbor has described the moment he had to pry the puppy’s teeth out of her head.

David Gorton was upstairs at his house when he “heard a commotion outside” and ran quickly down the stairs, LancsLive reported.

He saw Kia, a crossbreed, attack his 75-year-old neighbor Jacqueline while his other two dogs were “trembling in the corner” as David put his hand in Kia’s mouth to try to stop the attack.

David, who has lived next door to Jacqueline for 33 years, sustained injuries himself stopping the attack, but his neighbor sustained a head injury.

He was thankful Kia hadn’t bitten her on the face, but paramedics arrived and took the 75-year-old to the hospital, where she remains to this day.

David said the incident left him and his family “heartbroken”.

He said: “Jacqueline had stopped by because she asked me to find her biodegradable cat litter, so I had ordered it online and she brought the money around.

“I was upstairs and I just heard this strange noise and I was like, ‘What the hell is that?’

“It all happened so fast, I heard all the commotion and ran outside and she was on the ground.

“The other two dogs were shaking. I had to put my hands in the dog’s mouth to get them from Jacqueline.

“I’m going to the hospital later to get a tetanus shot. We feel terrible.”

David, from Blackburn, claims that when he arrived the police told him he was doing everything he could to protect the public.

His garden is fenced in and has “beware of the dog” signs all around it.

“Kia is my son Sonny’s dog and he’s had her since she was a baby,” added David. “The police also took away Nala, our two-year-old, although she had nothing to do with it.

“Kia has been confiscated and tested before after attacking another dog but they gave her back to us and said she wasn’t a pit bull so I don’t understand why they said they were pit bull type breeds.

“Sonny said right after it happened that he would take Kia to the vets to have her put down, but we said to wait and let the police deal with it. Nala will be desperate.

“She’s such a soft dog and if she stopped somewhere else overnight she would cry at the door all night.

“When the police took her away, she just trotted off with them, probably thinking they were going to take her for a walk, and she sat in the front seat of the police car.”

This morning Lancashire Constabulary released a statement in which Detective Sergeant Peter Davies said: “We can confirm we are investigating a dog attack in Blackburn.

“The woman concerned was believed to be making a delivery to the address when she was attacked. She sustained significant, life-changing injuries.

“Our thoughts are with her and her family at this time. The dogs involved have been confiscated and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack is ongoing.”
