Ozzy Osbourne has blamed reality TV stress for his family’s alcohol and drug problems.

The Black Sabbath legend, his wife Sharon, daughter Kelly and son Jack all starred on MTV’s The Osbournes 20 years ago.

But just three years after the show’s launch, the family gave up in 2005, amid addiction and mental health crises.

After moving to Los Angeles, the singer and his family starred on the MTV reality show, which debuted in 2002.

But Ozzy, 73, has opened up about how her show has done far more harm than good.

Speaking to The Sun, the rocker admitted: “Having a camera crew living in your house 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it gets a little crazy.

“The kids were doing drugs and alcohol and I had gone back to liquor.

“When the third year came, Sharon sat down with all of us and said, ‘Do you want to continue?’ Everyone just said no.”

One of the show’s main storylines had Ozzy trying to undo years of hard partying by eating well and running on a treadmill.

But it turns out the Black Sabbath rocker was indulging his vices behind the scenes.

Ozzy previously revealed: “When filming finished, I would go into my little bunker and smoke a pipe and drink about a case of beer a day.

“I would do myself a favor and get up early in the morning and go for a six-mile jog.”

The show covered some of the famous family’s darker moments, including mom Sharon’s battle with colon cancer and Ozzy’s quad bike accident.

Dismayed by Sharon’s diagnosis in series two, Ozzy also took a number of prescription drugs.

The singer previously admitted he can’t bring himself to watch the show again due to his condition.

“I was obliterated with pills,” he admitted to the Los Angeles Times.

“I could not speak. I couldnt go. I could hardly get up. I stumbled around like the Hunchback of Notre Dame Wake up.”

But the addiction problems didn’t stop with Ozzy.

Unbeknownst to her family, Kelly began abusing the prescription pain reliever Vicodin after she was prescribed it for tonsillitis when she was just 13 years old.

At one point, the teenager was taking 100 pills a day and vomiting blood, and later explained that her addiction was to blame for the screaming matches she had on the show.

Kelly was admitted to rehab for the first time by many in 2004, and at one point a distraught Sharon locked her in a padded cell.

In series two, Jack finally came to terms with his own demons and entered a rehab facility for an addiction to the opioid pain reliever OxyContin.

The 17-year-old, who was also addicted to cannabis and alcohol, told the camera crew: “I want to be in control of my life. I was really full and I just sat on my mom’s bed and just said, ‘I’m going to pack my things … I’m ready to go. I want to go, I have to go.’”

The family’s antics drew a lot of attention throughout its four seasons, and while the show had focused on the life of the rock star’s family, Ozzy and Sharon’s eldest child, Aimee Osbourne, now 38, was not included.

While Kelly and Jack liked to be the center of attention, their big sister Aimee didn’t want a buck and moved out of the family home when she found out the cameras were coming when she was just 16.

She also banned their visits from being filmed and Sharon, 67, later admitted the situation had created a distance between them.

“I know my oldest girl couldn’t live in our house because we were filming and it was driving her insane,” Sharon told her US talk show The View.

“She also felt like she didn’t want to grow up in front of the camera. She hated the idea, she found it appalling. And so she left her at 16 and I regret every day that she did.”

Though Aimee didn’t want to be in the spotlight, she’s now a singer and actress and recently told NYLON magazine in 2020 she’s just too young to deal with her life being so exposed.

“It just wasn’t my intention. Everywhere you’ve gone, people want to know everything, and when you grow up it can be a bit intimidating,” she said.

“The idea of letting it all out at that point, by the time you’re about fifteen… Nobody at fifteen wants anyone to see how goofy their parents are.”

Aimee and Sharon remain close and are often spotted shopping with girls shopping. But as for her younger siblings, love is not lost.

“I wouldn’t say there’s any relaxation between us,” Aimee once said of her strained relationship with Kelly, 37, and Jack, 36.

“But there is an acceptance. Let’s meet? No.”

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Osbourne’s as the show thrust them into the limelight and launched their two-decade career on television.

Ozzy’s family has pursued her own career since she appeared on the show alongside him, and his wife and youngest children have pursued other TV projects.

Notably, Sharon was a judge on the X Factor in the UK between 2004 and 2017. More recently, she co-hosted US chat show The Talk from 2010 until her departure amid a racism row last year.

Kelly was a panelist on Fashion Police from 2010-2015 and appeared as a judge on Project Runway Junior between 2015-2017.

Her brother has hosted travel shows like Adrenaline Junkie (2005-2009) and since 2019 has ventured into paranormal TV projects like Portals to Hell.

He recently got engaged and is expecting a baby with his fiancee Aree Gearheart.

Ozzy has spoken about how he struggles with mental health issues as he struggles with Parkinson’s, the pandemic and recovering from surgery.

The father-of-eight recently announced he is in therapy and he and Sharon are moving back to the UK after complaining that the tax hike has pushed them out of the US.
