With the recent confirmation that Palia will enter alpha testing phasewith Invitations started going in last weekendNow the Singularity 6 team has confirmed that Palia will release as a free game with purchasable cosmetic items.
In a business model validation blogthe head of a business group called WizardCrab, says that playing for free with cosmetic monetization is a successful and well known model, so this makes community-centered game More accessible. Since there is no purchase to play and no registration required, there are fewer barriers to entry.
They are committed Honesty and transparency in their practice, so their monetization approach will only be for cosmetic content. Initially, the plan was for the usual things like outfits and clothes. They still leave the door open to monetizing other cosmetic content in the future but since these are basic items that can be monetized in free games it makes sense to start there. You also won’t find loot boxes or anything that monetizes the core game.
Singularity 6 is looking to make your money if you want, and can, pay for cosmetics and will work to get their store’s products to stand on their own as things that feel valuable. There will be items that are always available and maybe exceptions to the limited ones but they will always let the player know in advance.
The announcement also makes it clear that the cosmetic items that are on sale will not be something you can earn in-game, noting that “if you can’t buy the things you earn, it also means you won’t be able to earn things you can buy.” That seems like a fair system, and they believe that by separating them, they are first designing the gameplay and designing what they stand for. The latter is worth buying.
You can check out some of the cosmetic concepts including videos, Academy and Rogue outfits, and even a cute animal costume, ended at Palia.
