Paralympic swimming gold medalist Ellie Simmonds is the latest celebrity to be revealed in the dance serious 2022 roster.
The five-time Paralympic champion and broadcaster said she was “literally exploding with excitement” but also “completely petrified” as she stepped onto the famous dance floor.
Simmonds has gone on to present for BBC Sport at the Commonwealth Games, as well as make documentaries such as Ellie Simmonds: A World Without Dwarfism? for the BBC.
The 27-year-old, who at 13, was Britain’s youngest athlete at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, said on Twitter: “Oh my! I’m really bursting with excitement! It’s hard to keep this a secret because I want to tell everyone. I will seriously come to dance!
“I’m also a little nervous, a little more… I’m completely petrified! Being offered to be part of the Serious family is so exciting and I can’t wait, it will be fun.
“I’m counting down the minutes until it starts; take dance lessons, meet my partner and other people involved in the program. Plus wearing sequins and all that, it’s going to be a blast.
“I watched Strictly from as far back as I can remember; it’s a tradition leading up to Christmas with my family and it’s a real privilege to be a part of it. “
Simmonds joins previously confirmed contestants, comedian and actor Jayde Adams, Coronation Street actors Will Mellor and Kym Marsh, Loose Women stars Kaye Adams and Radio 2’s Richie Anderson.
The final series of Strict was won by Rose Ayling-Ellis with professional partner Giovanni Pernice.
Episode 20 is coming soon, audiences will return to the studio, with the premiere scheduled to be taped on September 7.
