Passengers left frustrated after the travel chaos at Gatwick due to bad weather

PASSENGERS traveling to and from Gatwick Airport have experienced flight delays and cancellations due to “bad weather conditions”.

Dozens of easyJet, Wizz Air and British Airways flights have been delayed, with several cancelled, causing frustration among holidaymakers on Wednesday.

Many of the departure services were shifted from early afternoon to evening, causing disruption to those departing or going home.

Gatwick has since confirmed just over 60 outbound flights have been canceled due to weather conditions across much of France and Spain, meaning inbound flights have been unable to arrive.

Some passengers said on Twitter they had received “no information” from airlines as they waited to see if their journey would go ahead.

An easyJet passenger wrote to the airline: “So after waiting six hours in Gatwick North Terminal cancel the flight to Rhodes.

“Can’t rebook through the app, no flights, now gives an error and won’t even let me try.

“Nobody here knows what’s going on. You ruined our first holiday in two years.”

Another tweeted Gatwick, saying: “We have been stuck on the runway for over two hours now and no information is being given.”

The airport first announced possible delays and cancellations on Wednesday at 4:55 p.m.

Thunderstorms, rain and wind hit England on Wednesday morning, which was moving from the south east into central and southern Europe.

The Met Office warned that heavy showers – with 30 to 50mm of rain and more than 100mm in a matter of hours in areas where “storms move slowly” – would cause disruption.

In response to the complaints, a Gatwick spokeswoman said: “Due to poor weather conditions, air traffic control restrictions are currently in place across southern England and parts of Europe.

“Unfortunately, this will result in delays and cancellations of some flights today.”
