A BOY was left ‘sobbing’ after being forced to miss his school holidays abroad due to delays in passport renewal.
Mum Kirsty Morgan said she mailed her 10-year-old son Reuben’s passport more than a month before his trip to the Bormio ski resort in Italy.
However, she claimed it was repeatedly delayed – which meant she had to tell him on the day he couldn’t come to his friends’ house.
she said Liverpool echo: “I was told I could cancel it and get an emergency reissue if I go to the passport office, so I did it 3 times only to be told by a manager there was nothing they could do.
“No one could tell me exactly where my son’s passport was.”
She said she was even told to go to Liverpool John Lennon Airport to collect the pass in person, only to be told she couldn’t.
Kirsty, 39, added that despite being their first passport, some people had their passports returned within two weeks while Reuben’s passport was renewed.
She added that telling him he couldn’t go with his friends was the “most heartbreaking experience” and said he was “devastated, screaming and sobbing”.
A passport office spokesman said they are currently advising Britons to allow up to 10 weeks to get a new passport or passport extension, although there are one-week fast-track options.
