A PASS office worker has warned that delays in submitting applications will worsen this summer.
Millions of Britons have been told they will have to wait up to 10 weeks for their passports due to a huge delay in applying.
This has resulted in a number of families having to cancel their holidays, with many of their passports lasting even longer than the recommended 10 weeks.
A passport employee, who remained anonymous, told the I that the delays “will only get worse” this summer, with the current delays being the “tip of the iceberg” of the problems.
They explained that this is because the current system for passport applications is not “fit for purpose”.
They also said the main problem was staffing, saying: “They tried to hire 1,700 staff but they didn’t realize anything like that number because they can’t get the staff. Difficult to recruit with low wages and fixed-term contracts.”
The anonymous worker who was added had been injured afterwards Boris Johnson threatened to ‘privatize the ass’ shutting them down unless they fixed the problem, adding that if they worked as hard as they could, it would have a “devastating effect on morale.”
Earlier this month the government was forced to issue an alert urging Brits to allow up to 10 weeks to receive their passports, rather than the usual 5-6 weeks.
Many are already affected by the delays – one woman told Sun Online Travel she had to do it cancel their £2,200 holiday to Spain because of the delays, while others have had to pay to postpone their vacations until later in the year.
And desperate families try track their passports quickly encountered a broken website.
The Fast Track service costs almost twice as much as the regular service – at £142 for a passport instead of £75.50.
Anyone attempting to use the site will be presented with a page that says “Sorry, we are currently experiencing high demand for this service and the system is busy. Please try again later.”
Here’s what to do if your Pass does not arrive on time.
Many Brits are also being forced to renew their passports early New rules who still need at least three months on them.
A family had to miss their £3,000 holiday in Portugal after it was only said at the airport.
