Mixed conditions are forecast for the coming days before milder weather returns later in the week.
et Éireann meteorologist Aoife Kealy said today will be a cloudy and mostly windy day with highs of 8C to 12C.
“Today will be a bit cloudy and quite windy with some rain and drizzle mainly over the western half of the country. There will be much drier weather further east,” she said.
Tonight it will be mostly cloudy with scattered rain or drizzle. A sustained shower of rain will move south and west overnight, with the heaviest falls in the southwest.
Remains rather windy with moderate to brisk south-easterly winds. Not as cold as the last few nights, with lows of 6 to 9 degrees.
Ms Kealy said the rain will continue into Monday, heavier along the southern coastal areas.
“Further north and east there will be some drier weather tomorrow morning but generally tomorrow it will rain or drizzle in most places,” she said.
Highest temperatures range from 9°C to 13°C or 14°C, moderate to brisk south-easterly winds ease later in the day.
On Monday night it will initially be mostly cloudy with long dry spells and only occasional drizzle before later rain showers will move south.
It will be a relatively mild night with low temperatures of 6°C to 9°C and only light southeast winds.
Ms Kealy said the weather will be “much” milder from Tuesday with scattered showers.
“At night the risk of frost is gone, from Tuesday it will be rainier, there will be a mixture of sunshine and isolated showers,” she said.
“These showers can get heavier at times and there may be some hail so it will still be quite choppy although there will be some bright spells in the day.”
Ms Kealy said showers will ease on Wednesday, with bright sunny spells forecast.
“By Wednesday the temperatures are going to be up to 15C or 16C and the winds are going to be a lot lighter so it’s going to feel, especially in those sunny periods, it’s going to feel pretty good.”
On Thursday it currently looks like it will be fairly cloudy again with some showers but with the possibility of a more extended rainy spell moving in from the west.
Maximum temperatures of 13°C to 16°C with a light to moderate southerly breeze.
The rest of the week seems to remain mild with some scattered rain showers and sunny spells.
