Patricia Brake stars in classic BBC sitcom ‘Going Straight’

Patricia Brake’s family has passed away at the age of 79 after a long battle with cancer.

The actress has had a career spanning 60 years that has seen her play roles in television series such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders.

But she’s probably best known for her role as opposite ‘father’ Ronnie Barker in the 1970s film Porridge.

Patricia’s son, Jon McBain, shared the sad news on Twitter: “I can confirm that my mother, actress Patricia Brake, passed away earlier today at the age of 79 after a long battle. fight cancer”.

In a statement, her representative Scott Marshall Partners added: “We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our beloved client, television and stage actress, Patricia Brake, at the age of 79, after a long battle with cancer. . ”

Brake rose to fame after playing Ingrid Fletcher, Barker’s on-screen daughter on the BBC sitcom Porridge in the 1970s.

She reprized the role in Going Straight, alongside actors Richard Beckinsale and Nicholas Lyndhurst.

Over the years, Brake has worked with world-renowned comedians Barker and Ronnie Corbett, known as The Two Ronnies, along with duo Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise.

Over the course of her career, other television roles include ITV’s Manhunt, The Glums and Midsomer Murders, as well as BBC’s Doctors, Holby City and Casualty.

Born in Bath, Brake studied at the Bristol Old Vic Theater School and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1962, where she played Hermia in Peter Hall’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, alongside Dame Judi Dench and Dame Diana Rigg.

Fans quickly sent their gratitude to the actress and comedian on Twitter.
