Patsy Kensit believes she developed dementia after losing her memory during menopause.

The 54-year-old actress Emmerdale went through menopause at the age of 45 after an emergency hysterectomy.

The mother of two revealed the impact the condition had on Postcards from the Midlife podcast.

Recalling the time coming soon after her surgery, she said: “I woke up in the intensive care unit and I didn’t know what I was doing, why I was there. I was in menopause.

“I’ve always prided myself on having a great memory because I’ve been scripting all my life – it’s like a muscle.

“I can’t remember a conversation, just a brain fog… I think I have amnesia. I went to the therapist and got the HRT patch. It wasn’t great.”

Patsy had a hormone therapy implant – the day before she appeared on This Morning.

In the 2013 interview, the actress talked a lot and told rambling anecdotes.

Looking back on the awkward incident, Patsy admits she “should never have been allowed to do any advertising” while suffering such serious side effects.

In a column written for Sunday Times Style MagazineThe performer explained her peculiar appearance.

She wrote: “Something is wrong: I feel like I’ve been drugged. I’m nauseous, dizzy and terrified, with chronic blurred vision. I also have a slight stutter.

Despite pointing out that she was in the midst of “full menopause”, Patsy was still posted online and “accused of drug use and intoxication”.

She admitted, “I was ripped off, vilified and seen as just another fallen star.”

Patsy is now trying to educate people about menopause

Now, the star, who shares son Lennon with Liam Gallagher, frontman of Oasis, is trying to break the stigma surrounding the condition.

“My commitment is to bridge the gap between pre- and post-menopausal women, who historically feel as if we have nothing in common,” she pledged.

“As a young woman, I didn’t know what was to come, but I’m now proud to share the information to educate and inform women of all ages on how to manage this transition without looking back. fear or prejudice.”
