Paul Barber gives Cucurella update – while checking Twitter!

Paul Barber has explained why Albion made an ‘unprecedented’ statement about Marc Cucurella.

The defender’s immediate future remains uncertain as he is close to a move to Chelsea.

Albion responded to what they described as “inaccurate reports from numerous media outlets” and said no agreement had been reached with any club.

Barber, the club’s chief executive and vice-chairman, said tonight: “We are under no pressure to sell anyone.”

“We don’t want to sell Marc in an ideal world, but we are also realistic about players’ ambitions and in certain situations, if our rating is met, we will respect those ambitions.

“We definitely don’t want to leave Graham (Potter, head coach) with a weaker team than he likes.

“It’s an ongoing process.

“It’s been a busy week, it’s certainly been a busy day.

“What we will never allow is the media to run away with a situation that is not true.

“If we see breaking news that we’ve sold a player when we didn’t actually agree on a deal, then we will step in and stop it.

“It’s more than a rumour. This gives you the very misleading impression that a deal is done when it isn’t.

“It’s not often that I approve a statement like this, but when I do, it’s serious.

“Last night wasn’t good and it’s not fair and we won’t let that happen.”

Barber spoke live in a fan forum on BBC Radio Sussex and Albion’s YouTube platform.

He joked that he checked Twitter when he started his reply.—checks-twitter/?ref=rss Paul Barber gives Cucurella update – while checking Twitter!
