Paul Barber says Brighton are paying the price for success

Paul Barber believes Albion are paying the price of success as they try to agree another important appointment.

But he says the process of finding the right head coach is underway.

Albion’s chief executive and vice-chairman has also tried to assuage any uneasiness over the departure of Graham Potter and his team to Chelsea.

The Seagulls won’t be back in the Premier League until October 1.

Your top men were sifting through potential new bosses yesterday.

Barber said: “It’s the price of success. It doesn’t make my hair grow anymore, that’s for sure.

“If you’re doing well and everything is going according to plan, and even exceeding plan, then your best people may be targeted by others who are faking the same success.

“It’s normal, it happens in every industry.”

He added: “We’re working our list down.

“We’re not in a big hurry. One of the lucky positions we’re in is the break, which gives us a little extra time after six or seven games of the season.

“That in itself is a small advantage, but it doesn’t mean that we take our foot off the gas, but that we work hard on the processes that we follow.”

Albion were disappointed to see their coaching staff, including popular ex-players Bruno and Ben Roberts, depart.

But Barber said: “I think sometimes in football there’s a feeling that people who work in the game are unlike anyone else in any other industry.

“Everyone wants to advance, everyone wants to advance their career.

“Everyone wants to be better off financially for themselves and their families and I think we have to respect that.

“As disappointing as it may be for us, it’s normal, it’s life and we have to deal with it.” Paul Barber says Brighton are paying the price for success
