Paul Hollywood says working with his father was ‘difficult’

Paul Hollywood has alleged that David Schwimmer was supposed to participate in a celebrity version of the Great British Bake Off (GBBO) but withdrew “at the last minute”.

The chef, 56, has been a judge on the baking competition – and its popular versions – since the show’s launch in 2010, with him currently serving as a judge alongside Prue Leith, 82 .

They are set to return as judges for a new series on The Great Celebrity Bake Off – in support of Fighting Cancer – which will begin on Channel 4 next Tuesday (March 22).

And while discussing the latest celebrity cast, Hollywood was asked who he’d like to see on the show – when he mentioned Schwimmer’s name.

He suggested that he wanted to meet the actor – best known for playing Ross Gellar in Friends – to sign up and even claim that he had previously been in.

Hollywood admitted in a recent Closer magazine interview, along with Leith. He thinks the actor was set to appear a few years ago.

However, the GBBO judge stated that Schwimmer withdrew shortly before the celebrity special began filming. Hollywood commented: “He let us down at the last minute.”

Mirror has approached Schwimmer’s representative for comment.

When asked who he’s most excited to meet, Hollywood mentioned Goulding – saying he’s a fan of her music. And he teased that her baking was “quite impressive.”

Hollywood described athlete Farah as “talented” and added that he would also love to meet actor Blake Harrison, 36, as he is a “huge fan” of the sitcom E4 the Inbetwearies.

Hollywood commented on celebrities being “out of their comfort zone”, with him saying that some participants were “petrified” at the start of the experience.

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer begins next Tuesday on Channel 4. The five-part series will air one episode a week.
