Paul Mescal reveals the unusual method he uses in sex scenes

Acaster described Mescal as an “extraordinary actor” and admitted that he was “absolutely captivated” by the 2020 lockdown on Ordinary People.

The trio began by joking about the noises the actor makes when he’s eating delicious food – with Mescal imitating himself saying, “Oh, my God. Oh, my God” – before when Acaster suggested that he would think about his favorite foods when filming intimate scenes if he were an actor.

Acaster said: “I would think about memories of food if I had to do a sex scene.

“I would think about really good food and how I feel about it because it’s not sex.

“But we’re not going to ask you about filming sex scenes, I’m sure you’ve been asked that a million times,” he added when speaking to Mescal.

However, to the comedian’s surprise, Mescal said he did just that.

“I mean, I always think about food during sex scenes. It’s an exclusivity, that’s what I think about,” he said.

Included in Mescal’s dream meal were Mexican cola, described as “eye-opening” and chicken wings he ate at the Elephant and Castle restaurant in Dublin “circa the 2010s”.

He also talked about a particular carbonara pasta dish he used to eat in the Puglia region of southern Italy.

“My dream main dish. This is the dish that worries me the most because I feel it’s too simple, but the main dish I want is spaghetti carbonara that I ate at a restaurant in Puglia. I’ve always loved carbonara but I’ve never eaten it in Italy. Like, that’s always what I would buy at restaurants in Dublin and London, and it’s different. It’s just simple ingredients, kind, perfect, just the right portion, the pancetta tastes delicious and the restaurant we’re staying at is a cave in Puglia with sunsets and bats flying around around and I thought, ‘This is pretty perfect,'” he said.

For an after-dinner drink, the actor chose a specific cocktail from the upscale Nomad hotel in London.

“They make this cocktail called Sergeant Pepper and it’s amazing. It’s in a small, small, small glass. It’s jalapeno, which is based on tequila, but with coriander, pineapple, and it’s green, very cold, both spicy and sweet. Just keep them coming, he said.

Mescal also talked about his love of Irish brown bread, real butter, chips, and his mother’s “crazy” Christmas grocery shopping.

“Like, go crazy. When I came back last Christmas, the fridge was just full of cheese and we weren’t a big cheese family. Like, I love a piece of cheese but she didn’t know that a charcuterie was called that, so she called it, ‘Now, I got you a cheeseburger and it’s beautiful’ . I love my mom so much, but, like, pronouncing things isn’t her forte,” he added.
