Paul Murphy was kicked by a right-wing activist outside Leinster House

TD Paul Murphy said he was swarmed and attacked by right wing thugs as he left Leinster House today.

Solidarity/People Before Profit’s TD said the attack happened as he was leaving the building to join a protest against defective housing outside when he was swarmed by a group of people who began verbally abusing him.

A protester kicked him, he said.

“I went to protesters outside the Dáil today who are campaigning for housing repairs,” he wrote on Twitter this afternoon.

“I was surrounded by a crowd of far-right activists who yelled in my face and one of whom kicked me.

“They deliberately disrupted protests for children with additional needs, for graduate student rights, for redress, and for rights for security guards.

“They also threatened to disrupt the @COLCIreland protest on September 24th. We will not be intimidated,” he said, referring to a protest against the cost of living crisis planned for later this month.

Mr Murphy was not immediately available for comment this evening.

However, he told a media outlet that he was “perfectly fine, I’m not the least bit intimidated by them.”

He added that he is unlikely to report the incident to Gardaí “as I don’t want to give them (activists) oxygen”. Paul Murphy was kicked by a right-wing activist outside Leinster House
