Peaky Blinders may be over, but creator Steven Knight has his next show up.
The BBC has finally released the trailer for the new show SAS: Rogue Heroes created by Knight and stars Jack O’Connell.
The upcoming six-part series is an adaptation of Ben Macintyre’s best-selling book, which dramatically recounts how SAS was conceived during the Second World War, after being granted access to SAS secret archive.
SAS: Rogue Heroes also stars Sex Education actor Connor Swindels as well as Sofia Boutella and Alfie Allen.
The 32-second trailer transports viewers to Cairo, Egypt, in 1941, and introduces the “weird band, gentlemen and pirates” that make up the new SAS team as they travel through the desert in a 4×4 vehicle.
The official synopsis reads: “Convinced that traditional commando units do not function, he creates a radical plan to confront all the accepted rules of modern warfare.
“He struggles to be allowed to recruit the toughest, boldest, and brightest soldiers for a small secretive unit that will create mayhem behind the enemy’s front lines.
“More rebels than soldiers, Stirling’s team is complex, flawed and reckless but they are amazingly brave and heroic.”
Knight, who created and wrote the series, said: “It has been a privilege to work on a project that tells the story of a group of rebel soldiers using wits and imaginations as well as fire. force to stop the march of Fascism across North Africa during the darkest days of the Second World War.
“This is a war story like no other, told in a way that is inspired by true events and true to the spirit of the legendary brigade of strays and explorers,” he added. .
SAS: Rogue Heroes will air later this year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
