When preparing for his latest role, Joe Cole went to great lengths to consider the part. The Peaky Blinders actor plays Harry Palmer in the remake of Sir Michael Caine’s Ipcress Dossier, which will air on ITV next month
Is my frame? Michael Caine ‘S….
There is an essential item that the wardrobe department needs to purchase ITV Remake of Ipcress File: Harry Palmer’s Iconic Square Glasses.
Peaky Blinders Star Joe Cole originally wanted to wear the real frames that Michael wore in the 1965 spy movie, but sadly has to admit: “They didn’t work.”
Instead, he tried every pair of frames made by Cutler and Gross to find the perfect replacement.
“These glasses are very important in getting into the character,” he said.
“I remember going to Cutler and Gross in Knightsbridge. I tried every pair in the store and only one matched.

“As soon as I put them on, I said, ‘Here are those.’ Then our costume designer Keith Madden showed up and he said, ‘Yeah, they’re the ones.’
“The ones we’ve used still have very sturdy, black frames and they still work. For me, as soon as I put them on, the job is done.”
The costume department has another tough job in this film adaptation of Len Deighton’s novel: aligning sharply tailored outfits to fit Zoom accessories…
The new series, starring Bohemian Rhapsody’s Lucy Boynton and The Night Manager’s Tom Hollander, will begin on ITV next month.
Announcing the six-part series last year, Polly Hill, ITV’s Head of Drama, said in a statement: “I am delighted to be bringing John Hodge’s brilliant adaptation of the novel that brings such symbolism on ITV.
“Harry Palmer is an incredible part and this wouldn’t have been possible without the right actors, so we’re all very excited that Joe Cole will take on the role.
“Talent on and off the screen means this will be a treat for audiences coming to ITV.”
