A female pedestrian died and a male pedestrian was hospitalized after a road accident in Co Laois this afternoon.
It did not happen near the Rock of Dunamaise in Stradbally and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
“Around 1:10 p.m., a car collided with two pedestrians in the Dunamaise area of Stradbally,” said a spokesman for Lake Garda.
“One of the pedestrians, a woman in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Her body has since been taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where a post-mortem is awaited at a later date.
“The other pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the car involved in this collision were not injured.”
The road is currently closed and forensic collision investigators are conducting an investigation into the scene. Local diversions have been set up.
Gardaí appealed to all witnesses to the incident to come forward.
All road users with camera footage, including dash cam footage, who were driving on any of the access roads to the Rock of Dunamase between 1:00 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. are asked to provide the footage to investigators.
