Penneys is launching a new website where customers can check stock

Primark has launched its website in the UK to allow customers to browse stock and check availability before hitting the stores.

The value fashion retailer, known in Ireland as Penneys, has promised its online shoppers its biggest-ever range to browse from the comfort of their own home, with thousands of products including clothing and homeware.

The new site aims to “better connect the journey between searching online and then shopping in-store.”

While Primark still doesn’t offer home delivery, the company hopes the site will be a popular resource for customers before heading to the nearest store.

The site was initially launched in the UK and will roll out to Primark’s 13 other markets in the coming months.

In a statement, the retailer said the move represents a shift in the role of digital technology within the company as it recognizes the crucial role the internet can play in supporting in-store sales.

Primark said the site’s product pages will contain more information and better images, while shoppers will also have access to improved search capabilities and product filters, such as by size and colour.

Paul Marchant, Chief Executive of Primark said: “We know our customers love the Primark shopping experience and the surprises they get when they walk into our stores – that’s what makes Primark so special.

“However, we know they also want to browse the latest collections and check availability online, which our new website makes possible for the first time.

“This new website and features represent a significant step forward for our business and represent a shift in the role of digital at Primark.

“The new website also gives us a great opportunity to reach a whole new group of customers by being able to showcase the wide range of products we offer when they browse online to entice them to our stores.” Penneys is launching a new website where customers can check stock
