Penneys has announced plans to open its next store in Tallaght on September 15.
Located in the Square Shopping Center in the former Debenhams unit, the store will span 43,400 square feet. The new outlet will feature fashion, homeware and beauty offerings, as well as a nail salon.
The Tallaght location will be the first new store the retailer has opened in Dublin in six years, following the opening of the Liffey Valley shopping center in December 2016. It will also be Penney’s 37th store in Ireland.
Penney’s, which operates outside of Ireland under the Primark brand, now has over 400 stores in Europe and North America.
“The store is almost complete and we are really looking forward to finally opening our doors next month. We have something for everyone at our affordable everyday prices. said Penneys Ireland and Northern Ireland head Damien O’Neill.
The retailer has also promised to freeze the prices of around a thousand children’s products as consumers continue to battle the rising cost of living.
“We are proud to continue to grow Penneys in Ireland and continue to invest in Irish retail,” added Mr. O’Neill.
According to Penneys, the new deal will be part of the retailer’s commitment to invest €250m in the Irish market over the next 10 years. The investment also includes the re-design of existing stores as well as the development of a new warehousing and distribution facility in Newbridge which is currently under construction.
Penneys stores in Ireland suffered a €72.1million fall in retail sales last year due to closures during the lockdown.
The first set of Irish-only accounts provided last month by the owner of Penneys showed the retailer’s sales fell to €482.2 million in the year to 18 September, compared with €554.4 million in the year to date Previous year.
