Hidden shortcuts

Watching TV on a laptop or computer can be annoying at times.

That’s especially true if you need to fiddle with a mouse or trackpad.

Luckily, Netflix has created several keyboard shortcuts that you can use to navigate the app much faster.

There’s loads to try, and you’ve almost certainly missed some of them.

Here are the most useful:

  • Spacebar – Toggle between play and pause
  • Enter – Toggle between play and pause
  • F – full screen
  • Esc – exit full screen
  • Left Arrow – Rewind 10 seconds
  • Right Arrow – Fast forward 10 seconds
  • Up Arrow – Increase volume
  • Down Arrow – Decrease volume
  • M – Mute
  • Shift-Alt-Left Click – Adjust streaming bitrate (to improve or decrease the quality of the video)

There are also some clever hacks you should know about on mobile.

For example, if you want to fast-forward through a TV show or movie, you need to tap the screen and then drag the timeline up and click the skip icons.

But there is a faster way to skip.

All you have to do is double-tap the screen – left for 10 seconds rewind or right for 10 seconds fast forward.

This makes it faster and easier to skip (or backtrack) to something you’re watching.

And you can also view the video in full screen by performing a pinch-out motion.

Netflix requests

If you’re a huge fan of a particular TV series or movie but Netflix doesn’t have it, there’s no need to suffer in silence.

You can send a request directly to Netflix and ask them to get your favorite content.

Just go to “Request a TV show or movie” in Netflix Help websitewhere you can make up to three content suggestions at once.

You can ask about content that was once on Netflix but has disappeared — or something that’s never been on the platform before.

If you’re dying to watch your favorite movie on the TV app, you can even start a live chat with Netflix or call them directly.

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that you will actually succeed.

Netflix could simply decide that it doesn’t want to spend any money acquiring the licenses for the content.

And maybe not enough users have requested the same content – so there’s little incentive to do so.

Netflix has a secret menu that most people don’t know about.

It’s mainly intended for tech-savvy people, but you can tweak the buffer settings.

You can unblock it from a smart TV or console by first resetting your Netflix app.

Then simply restart the app and use your controller or remote key as follows:
