Brits from across the country tuned in today to watch the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee competition on the final day of Her Majesty’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

However, some onlookers were stunned and outraged after spotting an alleged “Nazi symbol” on the side of one of the parade’s floats.

The cart, designed to explore the 1960s Northern Soul movement, featured an image of a black and silver wheel with jagged lines.

Many have compared this to the “Black Sun symbol” associated with Nazi Germany and later neo-Nazis.

The Black Sun’s design features a sun wheel with 12 radial Sig runes.

Social media users likened the icon to “The Black Sun”

Twitter users branded the symbol’s inclusion in the pageant as “poor judgment” and demanded answers on how it ended up there.

“Why is the black sun hovering on the North Sea at the Jubilee Parade,” one person asked.

Another said: “I guess they googled images of Northern Soul…but this…this isn’t a Northern Soul icon mate, it’s a WW2 Nazi badge.”

A third wrote: “Um. That… that’s a Nazi symbol. Is that real? WTF happened?”

Someone else said, “Nazi symbol on Northern Soul wagon? The same Northern soul that celebrated Black American soul music? I hope it was made by someone who had no idea and just liked the pattern.”

Others pointed out that if you search for the words “Northern Soul” the image will show up as a stock image on sites like Alamy.

“If you google ‘Northern Soul Images’ it will come up on a couple of stock photo agencies – I guess whoever got the job of dressing the float didn’t check,” added another user.

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant Company has since apologized for any offense the symbol caused.

They told The Mirror: “This is a real mistake and we apologize for the offense caused. The plot was meant to represent the Twisted Wheel Club associated with Northern Soul music from the 60’s and 70’s and unfortunately the symbol was mislabeled in search engines.

“This is a bug with no malicious intent. Anyone who has seen the pageant will know that the pageant is about inclusivity, tolerance and unity and that this symbol does not correlate with anything it stands for.”
