Guardiola reflects on Man City’s ‘tough’ exit from the Champions League
Manchester City’s agonizing loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League has bolstered Pep Guardiola’s determination to deliver the legendary trophy to the club.
City were stunned by Madrid inflicting their most harrowing defeat on Guardiola and his players with another epic late comeback at the Bernabeu.
Despite his fear of elimination when a place in the final was within reach, Guardiola is said to be even more determined to lift the trophy.
To underscore that commitment, the 51-year-old manager is said to be ready to sign a contract extension that will keep him at City until 2025.
City lost 6-5 on aggregate after conceding twice in 91 seconds before the Blues were eliminated by a Karim Benzema penalty in overtime.

The crushing defeat means Guardiola is still yet to win European club football’s elite prize in six attempts since taking charge at City in 2016.
Guardiola’s recent failure has led to suggestions that the Spaniard could decide to end his stint at City at the end of next season when his current contract expires.
However, Guardiola is looking forward to working with Europe’s striker sensation Erling Haaland, who is expected to join the club from Borussia Dortmund for £63million this summer.
Guardiola is convinced Haaland can make all the difference when it comes to conquering Europe as City missed a multitude of chances to effectively end their first-leg tie at the Etihad.
Guardiola, who has twice won the Champions League as a coach with Barcelona, has not lifted the trophy since 2011 and has fallen short at Bayern Munich and now City.
But Guardiola feels he’s not done with the competition, although his immediate focus is on City edging out Champions League finalists Liverpool in the Premier League title race.
City are a point clear of Liverpool in the title race but could ditch Jurgen Klopp’s men before Sunday’s kick-off against Newcastle should their rivals beat Tottenham at Anfield 24 hours earlier.
Guardiola knows his side need to recover from their European woes and ensure they win the title to show something from another epic season.
