A FLASHBACK: Sir Alex Ferguson tried to get Manchester United back on track in 2014 after a poor season under the stewardship of his preferred successor, David Moyes


In 2014, Manchester United were in a worrying state of disarray.

Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson had retired, handing the reins of England’s biggest football club to David Moyes, who struggled to maintain the high level of his compatriot and was sacked less than a year after being named boss.

Man United would eventually hire Louis van Gaal but there was a time when Ryan Giggs temporarily managed the club and Ferguson apparently took it upon himself to right his wrongs by suggesting Moyes for the job and landing Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola came over to FC Bayern Munich after four extremely successful years in Germany Barcelona. And Ferguson believed the Spaniard could be tempted with a move First League.

Guardiola recalled his private meeting with Ferguson, during which he admits he’s still not sure if he was actually offered the job due to his poor knowledge of English at the time Manchester United work or not.
