Pep Guardiola via Man City links up with Albion’s Marc Cucurella

MANCHESTER City manager Pep Guardiola has declined to comment on reports linking his side to Marc Cucurella.

The Brighton and Hove Albion left-back has reportedly made a transfer request at the Amex Stadium.

Manchester City have been linked with the Spanish defender throughout the summer transfer window.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Saturday’s Community Shield against Liverpool, Guardiola said: “He’s a Brighton player, I can’t say anything else.”

However, Guardiola admitted that left-back is an area where the club would like to strengthen.

Following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s departure to Arsenal, Joao Cancelo is the only senior option at the moment.

Guardiola said: “If it’s possible, yes. If not, we’ll stick with what we have.”

The manager also confirmed that centre-back Aymeric Laporte will miss the start of the season after undergoing knee surgery in the summer.

Guardiola said: “Laporte is injured. He had knee surgery after last season and played the last two or three games with a major injury. He’s put in an incredible amount of effort.

“He’s doing really well so far, but you have to be careful with a knee. I think in August he will be out, in September I think he might be with us. Pep Guardiola via Man City links up with Albion’s Marc Cucurella
