Person taken to hospital after serious accident on the A259 in Brighton

A person has been taken to hospital after an accident on Brighton seafront.

Firefighters, police and South East Coast Ambulance (Secamb) teams were all spotted at the scene.

Secamb has now confirmed that one person has been taken to hospital after being treated by paramedics.

A spokesman said: “Secamb was called around 11.10am today with reports of an RTC in Kings Road, Brighton.

“Ambulance crews were present and two patients were assessed and treated at the scene before one of the patients was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for further evaluation.”

A blue car was badly damaged after colliding with the railings outside the Salt Room on King’s Road.

The Argos:

Debris was seen strewn along the road as work was carried out to clear the busy thoroughfare.

A passer-by said traffic on the coast was badly affected.
He said: “I came to Brighton for work but was stuck by the sea. If you drove west they sent you to Cannon Place to drive around and drive back.

“Hope everyone is doing well. Hopefully it looked worse than it was.”

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue confirmed one person had been extricated but that two cars were involved in the crash.

She told The Argus: “At 11.08am we were called to an RTC on the King’s Road, Brighton.

“Firefighters from Preston Circus were present. The RTC affected two vehicles.

“One person was extricated from one of the vehicles and placed in the care of Secamb.

“We left the crime scene at 12:05 p.m.”

The Argos:

The accident caused mass disruption on the streets for several hours while emergency services attempted to clear the area.

Traffic on the A259 in both directions has been closed and several diversions have been put in place, such as to Cannon Place.

Brighton and Hove Buses also saw a number of routes suspended into the afternoon, citing severe congestion as the cause.

The Argos:

Just before 2pm, a Sussex Police spokesman announced the road had reopened and traffic was returning to normal in the afternoon.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “RTC reported at 11.08am on 22 September in Kings Road, Brighton that two vehicles were involved.

“Temporary road closure was in place, now open again.”
