Persona 3 was released on PlayStation 2 in North America in 2007 and was a mild hit. The gritty teen drama RPG had a niche audience, but those who found the game loved it. The game received a special edition with additional content with FES in 2008 and was re-released a third time for PSP in 2010 with most of the content added, but made some changes to run on Sony’s handheld platform.
Persona 4 followed – another mild hit – but then came Persona 5, cementing the franchise’s reputation as one of the best RPGs of all time. Fans who discovered the series at 5 have wanted to find out what they were missing, and longtime gamers have called for 3 to be re-released so a larger audience can play what many consider their favorite. After what seems like too long a time, Atlus is finally ready to make this happen with the renewed re-release of Persona 3 on modern consoles on January 19th.
