Jackson told the podcast that he “seriously considers” hypnosis as a way to forget the work he did on “Lord of the Rings”. He said he felt like an “unlucky person” when he didn’t experience it for the first time, fully fulfilled. He explained:
“At the time of screening[s] I was immersed in it for five or six years. It’s a loss for me not to be able to see them like everyone else. I was seriously considering going to some hypnotherapist to hypnotize me to make me forget about the movies and the work I’ve been doing for the past six or seven years so I could sit and talk. enjoy them. “
He hasn’t gone through it but says he spoke to British psychiatrist Derren Brown, who thought it could be done. Jackson mentioned that he was looking forward to the new Prime Video series, which would send him scripts to read at a time, but never did. Maybe that’s the best thing.
It’s an interesting thought, maybe forgetting all the work he’s put into that trilogy. Of course, it would be odd if he were to walk around his house, see all the Oscars the movies have won, and wonder why they were there. I kept thinking about Jackson showing up on the Hobbiton tour in New Zealand, and was confused as to why everyone was staring at him. That’s not how hypnosis works (maybe), but it does sound like a fun “SNL” sketch in the making.
“Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will premiere on Prime Video on September 2, 2022.
